The Covid-19 pandemic has altered the previously established functions of human resources departments, requiring businesses to reconsider the competencies needed in job descriptions to ensure resilience and strong growth in the face of future challenges.
1. Crisis Management: “The pandemic highlighted the need for flexible response capabilities and on-site crisis management” to minimize negative impacts on businesses.
2. Process Design: Most businesses have shifted to remote work or hybrid models (working in the office combined with working from home) to adapt to the situation. This requires HR departments to quickly design new processes and implement them effectively.
3. Application of HR Technology: The pandemic has spurred businesses to adopt HR technology for effective human resource management. In addition to using technology as an online work environment, HR professionals need to enhance their technological thinking skills to maintain and optimize organizational operations. In the Vietnamese market, Ms. Phan Nam Tran, HR Director of FrieslandCampina Vietnam, emphasized: “Businesses should note that HR technology systems are not isolated systems but need to be interconnected. The infrastructure must be robust, ensuring the linkage between systems. Furthermore, businesses should ensure that those operating the system have sufficient knowledge and are fully committed to using HR technology. In short, it's not because the tool is ineffective, but because the current system lacks the necessary capabilities to optimize that tool.”
4. Managing Social Security and Welfare Programs: Certainly, business leaders need to consider the safety and health of employees after the global crisis. 5. Employee Retention: Remote/Hybrid work models have reduced human interaction within organizations. HR leaders cannot rely solely on logic or behavior to assess employee loyalty. Management needs to focus on emotional factors to retain employees.
6. Accepting Value Diversity, Fairness, and Inclusion: The pandemic has altered differing perspectives on values, fairness, and inclusion within organizations. HR needs to accept and adapt to each individual to maintain effective business operations.
